Business Licenses and Permits

Businesses are required to hold a myriad of different kinds of licenses and permits, at the local and state level.  Businesses that sell alcohol are required to obtain a liquor license from the local liquor control board.  Certain kinds of highly regulated industries require special land use relief.

Many professions are required to hold a particular kind of license from the Massachusetts Division of Professional Licensure. The licenses issued through this agency are, like your personal driver’s license is a prerequisite to legally drive, a prerequisite for practicing your trade in the state, and just like losing your driver’s license can be devastating for your life and livelihood, so can losing your business license be for practicing your business.

The first step in a serious enforcement action by the Division of Licensure is the receipt of an order to show cause an example of an order to show cause is displayed below.  This is a serious document that should not be ignored.   It is like receiving a complaint in a civil lawsuit.  Contact Attorney Dowling today if you have received an order to show cause, so that he can help you to avoid the loss of your license to practice in your chosen field.
